Will ChatGPT Recommend You? GEO & LLMO for SMBs

July 18, 20261 min Reading time

More and more people no longer google -- they ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google with its AI overviews directly: "Who builds websites near me?" or "Which tax advisor specializes in tradespeople?". The AI doesn't answer with ten blue links but names a handful of specific providers -- and whoever isn't among them simply doesn't exist for that prospect. Alongside classic search engine optimization, this creates a second visibility question: does the AI even mention my business? That's exactly what GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) and LLMO (Large Language Model Optimization) are about.

The good news: GEO/LLMO is neither a trick nor secret knowledge, but to a large extent simply consistent, clear, well-structured content. AI models favor pages with clear, factual statements, clean structure (meaningful headings, real text paragraphs instead of text baked into images), and machine-readable extras like structured data following Schema.org. It's also important that the core facts -- what you offer, for whom, and where -- are phrased consistently across the whole site so a model can reliably pick them up. Newer building blocks such as an llms.txt file that points AI systems to your most important pages round this out. Much of it overlaps with solid technical SEO -- the two reinforce each other.

Honesty remains crucial here: nobody can guarantee being recommended by an AI. The models are black boxes, their answers fluctuate and can't be directly steered -- anyone promising fixed mentions or rankings is selling you an illusion. What can be done responsibly is to build the technical and content foundation that measurably increases the chance. That's exactly what we offer at HoloWeb as a service building block: structured data, clear content, and a clean page structure -- the basics of which we already examine in the free audit report after your initial consultation.
